Ridiculous example. I have torn apart homes from 2 to over a hundred years old for remodel work. Everytime I find Tyvek or any house wrap it has disentegrated to nothing but flakes. Any other felt replacement used resulted in the same. However 30 lb felt has always been in great condition and the times when it looks like it has failed is when a leak is above the felt and runs behind. Which in my experience is the number 1 reason houses have issues is the incorrect methods used by "carpenters". The basic materials are fine if all installs are done correctly.

How does liquid flash do with felt and bituminous membrane? Thinking of those additions where you would have existing felt paper behind siding or stucco and tying into new construction with zip system.

  • @jamesgarvey2090

I am a little ignorant when it comes to this but typically wouldn't the pipe flashing be added as a part of the shingling or roof covering? Wouldn't doing it this way allows for water to bypass the roof covering and allow water onto the decking? Flashing as a part of the shingle layer also makes replacement of the flashing much easier when the rubber flashing around the pipe fails.

Not sure why you didn't put zip sheathing on the bottom as well as the sides and top. Shim the cripples as you stated. Then use composite shims (waterproof) for the reverse bevel. You only would need to liquid flash the corners. Or go belt and suspenders with liquid flash layer on top.
